Japan’s history stretches back to the earliest recorded times and spans many centuries. It is a country that has developed its own unique identity, which can be seen in the way it looks at life and interacts with the outside world. The traditional culture of Japan is closely linked to Shintoism and Buddhism. Shintoism was introduced to the Japanese archipelago in the 6th century BCE from China and Korea. Buddhism arrived in Japan from China and Korea in the 6th century CE. Both religions had an immense impact on Japanese culture with their beliefs about rituals, ceremonies, festivals, architecture, paintings, sculptures, music and literature having a major influence on how people lived their lives during these times. For centuries samurai warriors were at the heart of Japanese society as they were considered to be protectors of society’s honor and loyal servants to their rulers or lords known as daimyo’s or shogun’s .
