According to Mahavamasa an ancient text in Sinhala, the establishment of the first Sinhala Dynasty happened in 543 c when Prince Vijaya was banished from the kingdom of Sinhapura by his father the king. He was accused of Misconduct from his violent ways .The prince along with his 700 followers arrived, at Puttalam, Sri Lanka. There Tambapanni the first kingdom was established, by defeating the inhabitants, the Yaksha. A Dynasty emerged.

The Vijaya dynasty advanced until 165 CE when Vasabha founded the Lambakanna dynasty. THe dynasty ruled for for four centuries. The king at the time constructed multiple irrigation systems. Polonnaruwa fell. Drastic economic and social consequences followed. Agriculture and the Population dwindled. The beautiful Sri Lanka became ruined.
