communism is founded on the idea of a workers revolt. especially recent immigrant because they were considered more likely to have radical political views.

period of anticommunist hysteria. fear that a bolshevik revolution would erupt in the US reached its height during the Red Scare

that a communist revolution might be starting in the US

Attorney General whos house was bombed. Started the Palmer Raids

the 36 letter bombs sent to prominent citizens. the bombing of palmer's house by an italian anarchist.

mostly immigrants who had recently arrived to the country. there was no real evidence of wrongdoing.

caused fear and paranoia. caused hostility toward immigrants and people with radical political views. the justice department overreacted by rounding up many innocent people and either deporting them or jailing them.

The judge was well known for his strong dislike of radicals. eyewitnesses who could offer alibis for them were dismissed. avoided military service in WWI, hurt them.

Even though they are innocent they are guilty of being radicals and so we will kill them

their deaths were caused by the fear of the revolt because they were anarchists.

Americans who cared about civil liberties were outraged. People in cities protested. Some people saw the as heroes, but many thought they deserved to be punished for their views.
