Organisms are living things that have the ability to interact with their environment. They can be single-celled or multi-celled, and range in size from microscopic bacteria to giant blue whales. Organisms often rely on other organisms for their food, oxygen, and other resources necessary for survival. As a result, organisms form ecosystems intricate networks of relationships between species that allow them to survive in a given area.Organisms vary greatly in their physical appearance, behavior and habitat. A few examples of different types of organisms include animals such as birds, mammals and reptiles; plants such as ferns and trees; fungi such as mushrooms and molds; protists such as algae; bacteria and viruses. All these different types of organisms are essential components of the environment. Without one type of organism, an ecosystem would not be able to function properly due to the lack of resources or services it provides. Organisms also play an important role in nutrient cycling the process by which nutrients are taken up from the soil by plants and then cycled around through animals’ intakes into the atmosphere before being taken up again by plants. This cycle ensures that both producers (plants) and consumers (animals) have access to enough energy for survival by constantly replenishing depleted resources with new ones from natural sources. Overall, organisms are integral parts of our environment that contribute significantly to its functioning both directly through their presence and indirectly through nutrient cycling processes they help facilitate within ecosystems. Without them many aspects of our planet’s biomes would not be where they are today.
