President Truman fought against the Taft-Hartley Act and also fought for civil rights reforms. He tried to push new Fair Deal reforms to strengthen existing New Deal programs but these were rejected. President Eisenhower kept the existing New Deal programs alive. He started new programs such as the interstate highway system and programs to train more scientists.
