Team Dynamics In BLS For Healthcare Providers

1. Chest Compression Fraction=proportion of time compressions performed during cardiac arrests. Requires use of CPR feedback machine. 2. At least 60% with goal of 80% in high performing teams.

1. Every resuscitation team must have defined team leader. 2. Assigns team member roles. 3. Makes treatment decisions. 4. Provides feedback to the rest of the team. 5. Assumes responsibility for roles not assigned.

1. Compressor- Assess patient, performs chest compressions, switches with the AED/monitor every 5 cycles. 2. AED/Monitor- brings in & operates AED, positions monitor so it can be seen by everyone, switches with compressor every 5 cycles. 3. Airway- opens and maintains airway, provides ventilation.

Every team member should know their own limitations and team leader should be aware of them; ask for assistance or advice early!

If you see something wrong, say something! Stop someone from making a mistake, regardless of the role on the team.

Summarize information out loud to provide ongoing record of treatment, reevaluate victim's status, interventions performed & teams progress within algorithm.

As a team leader, this means calling each team member be name and making eye contact when giving instruction. Don't assign additional tasks until you are sure that the team member understands the instructions. Team members-when assigned a task by the team leader, confirm you understand the task you are assigned be verbally acknowledging the team leader.

Use concise, clear language and speak loud enough to hear but in a tone of voice that is calm and confident.

All team members should display mutual respect and professional attitude to other team members, regardless of skill level or training.

An opportunity for team members to identify why certain actions were taken. This helps individual team members perform better & helps aid the team in identification of system strengths and deficiencies. Can be done during & after the resuscitation.
