He is stunned and speechless

Wilson locked Myrtle in her room and planned to keep her there for 2 days. Wilson does this because he comes to believe that Myrtle is having an affair and wants to quickly move away.

Daisy suggests driving to the city because she wants to avoid a confrontation between Gatsby and Tom. She believes that going to the city will distract everyone (most importantly Gatsby and Tom) from the issue at hand- her affair with Gatsby.

Gatsby believes that Daisy has never loved Tom and she will leave Tom to be with him.

Daisy is torn between Gatsby and Tom. On the one hand, she loves Gatsby and the blissful escape she experiences when she is with him. However, on the other hand, Daisy admits that she did love Tom once and realizes that while she would love to, she couldn't possibly leave him, along with her elegant, old money life.

On the way home from NY, Gatsby let Daisy drive the car in order to calm her down. Just as they are passing by the Wilsons', Myrtle runs out into the road and is fatally hit by the car.

Wilson is clearly devastated and distraught by Myrtle's death, and may possibly feel some regret too, as he was the reason why Myrtle ran into the road.

Tom immediately establishes his alibi and states that he has no idea where the yellow car is and that it was not his. However, later on, during the ride home, he begins to cry.

Nick is quiet and feels slightly sick. Finally, he realizes that he has had enough of the immorality of Daisy, Tom, and even Jordan.

Gatsby's immediate reaction is his concern for Daisy and already plans to take the blame for her.

In the long run, Daisy and Tom are a good match. In many ways they are similar. For example, they are both careless and take little responsibility. Additionally, they basically stay married because they each have something to both gain and lose in the relationship.
