Rainsford spends the whole night on the run from Zaroff. He rests in a tree at one point, and Zaroff tracks him but never looks up in the tree.

Because Zaroff tracked him there but never looked up and he is a good hunter. Yes Zaroff enjoys the game of hunting and wanted a challenge.

Zaroff is pretty happy that he finally has a worthy opponent to match wits with.

Lazarus the dog followed another person being hunted by Zaroff into the swamp and quicksand. He died in quicksand.

Rainsford is telling General Zaroff that the game is not over. Zaroff should consider Rainsford as the prey he was tracking before. Rainsford refers to himself as a "beast at bay" because Rainsford is unable to retreat and forced to face danger.

Zaroff says that one will be fed to the dogs, the other will sleep in the bed. Since Rainsford slept in the bed that night..........we assume that ZAROFF lost the game!!!!!!!

Yes, I think he changes his mind about animals not having feelings. He felt fear when he was being hunted by Zaroff

Through the use of adjectives,dialogue between the characters, and the plot characterization. The hunt is full of suspense. Rainford's urgent movements and fearful thoughts contribute to the suspenseful mood.
