This is the entrance to the tomb of Rameses II. He was the king after Tutankhamun. The tomb has two large carvings on either side of the entrance. All four carved figures are of Rameses II, in order to send a message of his power and significance. Next to the far-right carved Rameses II, on the left, is a carving of Queen Nefertari. She is small because she is less important, and in Egyptian sculpture, size indicates importance (lecture 1 of Ancient Egypt). Also, Twice a year, the first rays of the rising sun shoot through the entire depth of the corridor.

The images are showing the judgment of Hunefer before Osiris. Anubis is taking Hunefer through his judgment. If he did not pass the test, he would be eaten by Ammit, the creature with the alligator head, lion mane and body, and hippo bottom and legs. He does pass however, and goes before Osiris and is able to enter the after life.

The Rosetta Stone contained a decree honoring Ptolomy V. A French scholar found the names of Ptolomy and Cleopatra in Demotic, and was able to match these to the Greek writing. This is when it was discovered that the same information written in three languages. After that, it took three years to decode the entire passage.
