Exchange mobility suggests that society is made up of classes and that these classes maintain a relatively static number of people. Should a set number of people move upward from the middle class, an equal number is expected to move down from the upper class.

Movement from one position to another within the same social level. E.g.: Changing jobs without altering occupational status, or moving between social groups having the same social status.

Response bias is the tendency of people to answer survey questions untruthfully, possibly due to social pressures.

The Thomas theorem states that if men define situations as real, they are real in their consequences. I.e.: The INTERPRETATION of a situation causes the response.
