Founders were angered by a fixed vote for a prize in oratory to be given at the Neotrophian Literary Society (a forum for students to practice and demonstrate skills in poetry, public speaking and writing essays), responded by forming a secret society. The purpose of the new society, known only by the Greek letters Delta Tau Delta, was to see the Neotrophian Society returned to popular control from the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, and to form an organization of the student body drawn together by common aims, brotherly regard and desire for mutual support.

Truth is fundamental to any organization, but truth is particularly critical to Delta Tau Delta because honest relationships are mandatory for Brotherhood. Telling the truth to yourself and others is fundamental to your commitment to a life of personal and professional excellence.

Courage means aggressively taking on challenges and being a leader in the face of adversity. It means caring for the lives of the people around you and understanding that sometimes saying, "No" is a necessary act of responsibility and love for your Brothers and the Fraternity as a whole.

Faith is a belief in yourself that what you are doing is right. Whether your faith comes from yourself, your parents or your God is up to you. Faith also means being loyal and trusting among people. It means knowing that people will make correct choices and decisions provided they have the necessary information and they understand the consequences of their actions.

Power is the inherent ability and talents of each member as valuable resources. These qualities and talents give Delta Tau Delta the power and energy to continue looking and moving toward a grand future.

Truth, Courage, Faith, Power

Integrity is Essential: Integrity means doing what you say you will do. Integrity establishes credibility for yourself and the Fraternity, and having it means that others can trust you, believe you, and count on you.

Accountability is Fundamental to all Commitments: Accountability means holding to your promises, making you responsible for both your words and your actions.

Lifelong Learning and Growth are Vital: There is no status quo in the pursuit of excellence - you are either moving ahead through continuous growth and learning, or going backwards and slowly narrowing your choices and opportunities in life. There is no point in today's world where one can afford to stop learning and growing.

Strengthening Community is Essential to our Vitality: The pursuit of a life of excellence must occur through constant interactions with many different communities. Therefore, a strong community is vital for your future, as well as the Fraternity's.

Brotherhood Sustains Us: Delta Tau Delta is an organization that relies on Brotherhood to hold us together. Brotherhood involves individual responsibility to one's self and to others.

We consider ourselves to be the academic leader in the fraternity world. Over the course of the past five years, we have consistently ranked near the top among all college fraternities in overall grade point average. We are also known for our leadership programming and member education, including our renowned Leadership Academy and Delts Talking About Alcohol programs.

Like any organization, it all depends on how much time you wish to put into it. For basic purposes, an Executive member of our organization should expect to spend 6-8 hours a week with the Fraternity. An administrative member can expect 4-6 hours a week. An average member can expect 2-4 hours a week. This time is spent in chapter meetings, committee meetings, service activities, socials, intramurals, etc.

Delta Tau Delta does have a pledging period. It is recommended that this period last 6-8 weeks. During this time, you will learn about the history of Delta Tau Delta, how to run an effective chapter, the duties of the officers and also be shown what it means to be a productive member of the chapter.

Delta Tau Delta is not an alcohol free organization. We are dealing with the issue in two ways: Education and environment. We believe the problem does not lay with the consumption alcohol, but with the abuse and "drunkenness" that result. The Delts Talking About Alcohol (DTAA) program is designed to educate our members about the risks associated with alcohol. With regards to the environment our members live in, we have challenged our chapters to tell us how they will be dealing with alcohol in their chapter house. By allowing our chapters to make their own decisions regarding alcohol, we can now hold them accountable for their actions and decisions. 100% of our chapters have responded to this challenge by developing standards of behavior with regards to alcohol use and abuse. Magazine - Inform members of the events, activities and concerns of interest to members of the Fraternity. Attract and involve members of the Fraternity via appropriate coverage, information and opinion stories. Educate present and potential members on pertinent issues, persons, events and ideas so that members may be aware of and appreciate their heritage as Delts. Serve as an instrument of public relations for the Fraternity by presenting an image of the Fraternity commensurate with its quality and stature. Entertain readers with its information and quality writing and editing, so that it is a pleasure to read and share with others.

The Arch of Promise is a newsletter for undergraduates and alumni volunteers.

The Delta Shelter is a house corporation and property management supplement to the Arch of Promise. It is published quarterly.

Volunteer Monthly is a monthly supplement to the Arch of Promise meant to inform and inspire volunteers working with chapters. It is published monthly from August to April.

THETA EPSILON, American University Delta Tau Delta's Theta Epsilon Chapter located on American University is far more than any mere social organization. Over the past semester, this close brotherhood has committed themselves to strengthening the community surrounding them by continuing to do philanthropy. In April, Theta Epsilon held the largest philanthropy event on campus called Delt Dodgeball in which teams from the community, faculty, and student body could come and participate in a dodgeball tournament with all proceeds going to John Hopkins Cancer Center. Academics are a part of every college fraternity. The Theta Epsilon Chapter of Delta Tau Delt truly exemplifies the concept of academic excellence. We are close second for highest cumulative GPA on campus and recently won highest GPA for the semester this past semester. We have worked hard to keep up our grades in order to better compete not only for awards but in the job market as well. We have also achieved the highest GPA in the Great Southern Division. This semester, Theta Epsilon Chapter has implemented a new program that is nationally called, The Road. Through this program, alumni, professors, and professionals come to speak to our brothers and help them in the professional sphere through workshops on important life skills. These workshops included personal financial stability, resume workshops, interview tips, and how to network effectively. Overall Theta Epsilon has taken great leaps forward toward achieving our goals and upholding our commitment to Delt and our commitment to each other constantly pushing each other to succeed. Within our chapter we have had several of our newer members run for elected office in a prime example of leadership within the Fraternity. Outside of the Fraternity, one of our members who was the interim president and vice-president of IFC, has recently been elected as the head of the combined Greek Programming Board. The Theta Epsilon Chapter of Delta Tau Delta also continues to be the most hired fraternity in leadership roles on campus including campus hosts, orientation leaders, summer leadership team members, and new student program coordinators.

Within the Boardroom display cases you will find the Kadinkas, or Arch Chapter Jewel, of Edwin Holt Hughes, grandfather of David Hughes, and father of Fran Hughes. Their family is the only in the Fraternity world that has three consecutive generations to serve, not only on the Arch Chapter, but also as international president of the Fraternity.

Along the west wall, you will find a display dedicated to the Distinguished Service Chapter. Since 1930 the DSC is the highest award an alumnus can receive for service to Delta Tau Delta. Below the display you will find the Distinguished Service Chapter roster, which contains the citation of every individual who has received the award.

As you enter the Central Courtyard, you will notice the four columns surrounding the center black pavers representing the Badge of Honor. Each column represents one of the four fundamental principals of Delta Tau Delta: Truth, Courage, Faith, and Power. The Badge of Honor Shrine is shaped like the badge of the Fraternity and contains the names of influential Delts throughout our rich history.

The Recognition Wall is dedicated to specific women who have had exceptional involvement with the Fraternity over the years and who have provided for much of the hospitality associated with the Fraternity, as well as, to other women and staff members who have been instrumental in the day-to-day operation of the organization. Engraved on the wall are the names of those individuals who have given to the Headquarters Project and undergraduates who have donated over 100 dollars. The personalized bricks are purchased through donations and arranged in chapter order. We plan to have every brick engraved to honor many good Delts. If you wish to make a donation and order a personalized brick, please ask a staff member for an order form.

Directly outside of the Consultant Suite is the Field Staff Service Roster. Here you will find the names and dates of every Delt who has traveled for the Fraternity as a chapter consultant. Created in 1922 as the Field Secretary Program... there have been fewer than 200 men to serve Delta Tau Delta in this capacity.

The Chapter Consultant Suite is dedicated to Edwin L. Heminger. Brother Heminger served not only on the Field Staff, but also as president of the international fraternity, the North America Interfraternity Conference, and as chairman of the Educational Foundation. In this room you will find the cubicles of the current chapter consultants who travel from chapter to chapter approximately eight months out of the year. Lining the walls are consultant composite pictures that show the bios of those men who have traveled for the fraternity since the 1970's. Adjacent to the Consultant Suite is the consultant training room. The highlight of the room is the beautiful stained glass window which honors all Delts who have served in the Military.
