a desktop monitor that uses a liquid crystal display to produce images. Mobile computer and devices have LCD screens. Use a digital signal. To display highest quality images, and LCD monitor should plug in a DVI port, HDMI port, or a Display port.

(LCD) computers LCDs typically contain fluorescent tubes that emit light waves toward the liquid-crystal cells, which are sandwiched between two sheets of material. When an electrical charge passes through the cells twist. This twisting causes some light waves to be blocked and allows other to pass through, creating images on the display.

uses a separate transistor to apply charges to each liquid crystal cell and thus displays high-quality color that is viewable from all angle.

uses organic molecules that produce an even brighter, easier-to-read display than standard TFT displays.

uses fewer transistors, requires less power, and is less expensive than an active-matrix display.

depends on resolution (the number of horizontal and vertical pixels in a display device), response time (the time in milliseconds that it takes to run a pixel on or off), brightness (measured in nit), dot pitch (the distance in millimeters between pixels on a display device), contrast ratio (the difference in light intensity between the brightest white and the darkest black)

(GPU) controls the manipulation and display of graphics on a display device. On motherboard or resides on a video card in a slot in the motherboard.

allows users to connect external analog devices such as a television, DVD, or video recorder, to the computer.

defines a display's width relative to its height.

the number of bits used to store information about each pixel. Determines GPU number of colors.

is a display device that uses gas plasma technology, which sandwiches a layer of gas between two glass plates. When voltage is applied, the gas releases UV light. The UV light causes the pixels on the screen to glow and form an image.

(DTV) is used for crisper, higher quality output on their LCD or plasma television. Two reasons digital is better then analog: higher quality picture, many programs can broadcast on a single digital channel

(high definition television) the most advanced form of digital television, working with digital broadcast signals, transmitting digital sound, supporting wide screens, and good resolution.

a desktop monitor that contains a cathode-ray tube. Viewable size is the diagonal measurement of the actual viewing area provided by the screen in the CRT monitor.

an output device that produces text and graphics on a physical medium such as paper.

a computer or other device transmits output to a printer via radio waves.

a printer communicated with a computer or other device using infrared light waves.

forms characters and graphics on a piece of paper without actually striking the paper.

a type of nonimpact printer that forms characters and graphics by spraying tiny drops of liquid ink onto a piece of paper. Dots per inch (resolution), Pages per minute matter when purchasing.

a color printer that produces photo-lab-quality pictures.

a standard technology that allows you to print photos directly from a digital camera by connecting a cable from the digital camera to USB port on the printer.

a high-speed, high-quality nonimpact printer. Usually print faster the ink-jet. They store the entire page before they actually print. Creates images using a laser beam and powered ink, called toner. The laser beam produces an image on a special drum inside the printer. The light of the laser alters the electrical charge on the drum wherever it hits. When this occurs, the toner sticks to the drum and then transfers to the paper through a combination of pressure and heat.

(PDL) tells the printer how to arrange the contents of a printed page.

a single device that looks like a printer or a copy machine but provides the functionality of many different devices.

generates images by pushing electrically heated pins against heat-sensitive paper.

generates rich, non-smearing images by using heat to melt colored wax onto heat-sensitive paper.

uses heat to transfer colored dye to specially coated paper.

a small, lightweight, battery powered printer that allows a mobile user to print from a notebook computer, smart phone, or other mobile device while traveling.

a small printer that prints on an adhesive-type material that can be placed on a variety of items.

sophisticated printers used to produce high-quality drawings such as blue prints, maps, and circuit diagrams.

ink-jet printer which create large scale photo realistic quality color prints

forms characters and graphics on a piece of paper by striking a mechanism against an inked ribbon that physically contacts the paper. Near letter quality (NLQ) is printer quality slightly less clear than what is acceptable from business letters.

produces printed images when tiny wire pins on a print head mechanism strike an inked ribbon an the ribbon presses against paper. Usually used in a continuous form paper. Characters per second (cps)

a high speed impact printer that prints an entire line at a time. Lines per minute (lpm)

a component of a computer that produces music, speech, or other sounds, such as beeps. Speakers, headphones, and ear buds.

the number of bytes that represent sound in a given time.

occurs when you hear a person's voice or when the computer talks to you through the speakers on the computer.

allows users to speak and listen to others over the internet using their desktop computer, mobile computer, or mobile device.

a device that takes the text and images displaying on a computer screen and projects them on a larger screen so that an audience can see the image clearly.

(DLP) uses tiny mirrors to reflect light, which produces crisp, bright, colorful images that remain in focus and can be seen clearly even in a well lit room.

a touch sensitive device, resembling a dry-erase board, that displays the image on a connected computer screen. Notes written on the interactive board can be saved directly on the computer.

a technology that sends resistance to the device in response to actions of the user.
